Calm down…we’re still 3 points behind

Hey I’m just as ecstatic as the next guy over Villa’s epic fail at City, but we have to realise that our bid for champions league football still relies on Villa dropping more points.

It is almost a certainty that they will play their part in dropping vital points, what Arsenal players need to do is capitalise on Villa’s failings. Too many weekends we’ve seen Aston Villa drop points while we endeavour to do the same, no is the time to push on and turn those draws into wins.

Already ahead on goal difference, only 3 points needed for 4th.

Last year we threw away an FA cup game in a bid to win the league, following that debacle at Old Trafford we went on to suffer at the hands of Birmingham and the season went downhill from then on. This year Villa did the same in Moscow and since has seen results go against them, could it be that they are suffering the same fate we suffered last season?

Sagna certainly feels we will overhaul the villains saying

Is the pressure on Villa? I don’t know. At the moment we are only looking at Arsenal. We try to play game after game and give everything and get maximum points and then see where we are. But we can catch Villa if we play well. We have played quite well in the last few games. We have just not scored.

Spot on Sagna, concentrate on winning our games and we’ll be fine. Djourou is as confident as Sagna in our scoring ability, he said,

It’s not as though the chances were not there. It was just the finishing that wasn’t there.

Van Persie especially has seem to have misaligned his radar, while getting the chances to score he just can’t get them on target. Whether it is a mental think or just hard luck I feel the next few games present an opportunity for a correction in front of goal.

Looking at our four game nil-nil streak we had 61 shots on goal scoring 0 compare that to United who had 69 shots but yielded 7 goals. Scoring even 2 of those 61 shots we would have been already in 4th place, but that’s the competitiveness of the Premier League the margins between winning and losing is minuscule.

Another word which crops up in the vocabulary of winning trophies is consistency. There are 10 games left in the season, if ever we needed to be consistent is now.

The good news is that while Villa seems to be running out of legs, several of our key players are slated to be back over the next few weeks.

Barring any injury setbacks our returning players are set to be in the following order.

  • Gallas, Eduardo, Walcott, Silvestre, 8th March
  • Adebayor 11th March
  • Fabregas 21st March
  • Rosicky is due back on the 21st of March but I wouldn’t hold my breath, while Arshavin has still a week or 2 before full fitness.

The race to 4th place, although out of Arsenal’s hands, looks more and more likely to go our way. What do you think?
