William Gallas will be in the squad as Arsenal face Tottenham tonight in a game that manager Arsene Wenger describes a the biggest game of the season for now.
Arsene finds his defensive choices limited by a combination of the ACN and injuries, Senderos is out because of a broken nose sustained against Fulham last Saturday. On the face of it Wenger had no choice but to play Gallas.
The first leg Tottenham created numerous goal scoring opportunities but for their poor finsishing we would have been comprehensively beaten that night. Wenger made defensive changes at halftime, something he rareley does, because the swiss duo were having a terrible time trying to cope with the spurs.
Now I am not privy to what goes on a the dressing room, nor do I have information to incriminate Wenger, but I have to ask the question.
Is Senderos really so badly injured that he can’t play tonight?
I don’t know the answer but what I do know is, many players have had broken noses and played through the injury, the very same Senderos continued the Fulham game with his nose broken. If it was so bad why not replace him, after all Fulham was not really troubling our defence.
Maybe that’s just it. Fulham wasn’t a threat so Senderos played on, Tottenham is much more threatening so bring in the big guns.
I have no problems with Arsene’s team selection, he is the boss, he is the one getting paid to make those decisions. Knowing how much Wenger loves to protect his players I am a little suspicious of this “injury”. I only hope that I am wrong because that would surely be sending a negative message to Phillipe.
Despite everything, I am also more confident of a victory tonight knowing that Senderos is out of the squad. I have a lot of time for big Phil but after the first leg better to bring in Gallas than to risk an already injured Senderos.
What do you think?
