No one is able to tell what is in the mind of Arsene Wenger, time and time again he surprises us with his signings. His latest signing not being what we expected, is normal. A 31 year old defender with lot’s of experience, 4 league titles, a champions league winner, and 40 caps for France is nothing to sniff at.
News of Arsenal signing Silvestre has already split fans, those who think it’s a poor signing to those who think it might be the deal of the season.
Besides Silvestre being a league winner experienced etc. He has been hampered by injury, and it’s obvious that he was not well thought of by the Mancs. I mean, if Ferguson thought Silvestre had anything to offer there is no way he would have gone for such a paltry sum.
We know that Wenger is a good judge of talent, but is he really in a position to know Silvestre’s value better that Ferguson? For a team riddled with injury problems I cannot fathom why Arsene would sign another injury prone player, this one being older and suffered more wear and tear than any of our squad. Arsenal has already taken a punt on Bischoff, why take another on Silvestre.
There is some good in all of this though, he is better back up for Clichy than Traore or Gibbs. He can also play some role in the centre, as a squad player, that I am okay with.
Sometimes you go to the supermarket and by something off the sale rack strictly because of the value it represents. It’s not what you came to the store to buy, but you couldn’t resist a good deal so you add it to your trolley.
I am hoping that this is just an addition to the squad but we are still shopping.

Sometimes you go with the intention of getting something good. Instead you buy a piece of crap thinking you got a good deal.
